Book thing that everyone did and that I'm doing because I'm procrastinating.
* Grab the nearest book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
I always have like a million books next to me because they're good coasters I LOVE READING, so I decided to do this for several books.
"As you remarked the last time we went by / The Institute: "I really could not tell / The difference between this place and Hell" (Vladimir Nabokov, Pale Fire).
"Both the soldier and his mount share a muscular and compact physique with swelling rounded contours; the chain mail of the soldier's breastplate and the details of the saddlery are rendered with thick incised lines and simple geometry" (Eve D'Ambra, Roman Art).
"After a few bites, the children began to get their bearings, a phrase which here means "figure out how two people, using only two hands, can eat one ear of corn at the same time," but it was still quite a difficult task" (Lemony Snicket, The Carnivorous Carnival). (Better quote on that page: "I always thought people with birth defects were unfortunate, but now I realize they're hilarious.")
"Mais je n'ai pas eu le temps pour le coup de la baffe, parce qu'on a sonné à la porte et Marie-Edwige est entrée" (René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé, Le Petit Nicolas et les copains).
