Down with Norton Internet Security (and a public apology)

Oct 13, 2005 23:25

Firstly I'd like to apologise to everyone for being such a self-involved twat these last few months. I'd say years, but there's only so much I can (try) change at once, alas.

Secondly, the virus from hades turns out to be... norton internet security. Huh, go figure.

Item: Weirdo LJ comment baits me to suspicious html page.
Item: Check relevant comments on the user who posted said comment to find others have gotten a virus from this page. Following which there is PANIC and I install Norton and pray.
Item: Although Norton antivirus doesn't find anything, Mozilla Firefox will no longer connect to the internet. After three days of muttering I try IE which works TADA! Hmmm...

I have since come to the conclusion that I didn't get the virus from the page because Firefox does not download random shit from webpages. Instead I couldn't connect because Norton IS is geared to make sure it is as hard as possible to use browsers other than MS IE- despite the fact that Firefox has potentially saved me from a virus (touch wood) and I get on average 6 spyware programs per session on IE.

What a pile of crock.

pissed off i am, evil norton is
