here It all happens in the space of a second.
You must kill her. It's an echo that repeats in his head, maddening him. He knows, he remembers, he hears it as the Dragon gets in his mind. I know, he wants to yell.
Instead, he ignores it all.
Words come out of his lips without wanting; he frees a hand from the King and pushes it forward, magic driving through him aiming for the Knight. He sees him fly, and feels (rather than see) Morgana's eyes widening in surprise.
And then she is staring. Wild green eyes into his soul. Her mouth moves, but not sound comes out of it.
Run he yells. Morgana seems to snap out of her shock and gets up. She whispers a muffled you? when she reaches him, and he nods. As they keep dragging the King forward, Merlin feels their fingers brushing together, magic sparkling through them.
It all happens in the space of a second.
He'll regret it later, with her in his arms, with life and death lingering in his magic. He'll regret it in the future, when he remembers her soft voice and his betrayal on her eyes.
For now, it's all he has.

Title: simple life
Characters: Morgana, Merlin, Mordred {merlin/morgana}

Warnings: SPOILERS 2x03

Summary: For the prompt, Merlin, Morgana and their son Mordred. 2x03 AU. what if they had left? What if the druids had escaped? What if he had gone with her?. Originally posted
here Once, everything was different.
She works her hair with hard hands in simple knots over her head. Her eyes look tired, of working instead of no sleeping. Outside there’s woods, nature and magic.
Once, everything was not.
Merlin wonders sometimes, how things would have been had he done the right thing. Well, the supposed right thing.
Great would have been his destiny.
Hard would have been his path.
Merlin wonders, about Camelot, about Arthur, about Gwen… sometimes, he wonders if they’ll see them again.
Sometimes.
He doesn’t.
It’s a strange life in the woods for magic people, on their own, away from the groups of druids that stick together. It’s hard, working the land -Ealdor all over again-, it’s hard for such powers to remain contained under a little cottage in the middle of nowhere.
It’s hard to be nobody when they could be everything.
Strange, bizarre, unique.
It’s them.
Morgana likes the feel of the earth on her hands, she kneels on the ground every morning, magic surrounding her as well as inside her, and Mordred runs eagerly to help her. His face lit in a precious smile, so childlike and innocent that it breaks her heart. Sometimes, he uses magic -way too powerful magic- and she has to reprimand him.
It’s not the time, yet, she tells him silently.
She’s not sure she wants that time to come.
Merlin cooks. He always cooks. Or rather, moves his hands and glows his eyes until everything is ready. Mordred usually watches in awe, a bit far away, closer every time.
It’s a simple life, outside the castle, the fear, outside everything, far away.
It’s nothing that it was supposed to be.
It’s simple as the kisses he can give Morgana at night, without restrictions of class.
It fills their heart as Mordred becomes more childlike everyday.
It feels like freedom when magic arises. When they are.
Is everything it wasn’t supposed to be, it’s everything they shouldn’t have.
They know it, they fear it, but for now, it’s enough.
