Fair Professor Brun
Stern perfectionist, I yearn
To see thy non-smile.

A thing of beauty
A joy forever, so Keats
Would have described it.

I'm so glad we're going to go back to school soon! There are some things that I will truly miss next summer if it is fated that I shall never see them again!

What do you mean by "if it is fated that I shall never see them again?" You're not planning on performing abysmally in your NEWTs anytime soon, are you?

Next summer, my love. There are some things and people that I will inevitably never run into again once I'm done with Hogwarts. And no, I don't plan on performing abysmally on my NEWTs. I'd have to not attend classes, and then I'd miss out on everything interesting altogether, and that would be hateful, wouldn't it?

You made it sound as though it is not a given that you will leave. In order to be retained you would have to fail your NEWTs. You will not fail your NEWTs. You are therefore being overly romantic.

I am not your love.

I meant of course that NEXT summer, AFTER I DON'T fail my NEWTs, I will not see certain people or things again. It makes me rather sad to think of.

Fellow Prefect sounds so dry and clinical, doesn't it? And you are quite lovely in your way.

Are those haikus? I think that's what Ed called them.

Indeed they are! Are you interested in poetry?

Not really. I don't know much about it.

Ah. That's all right. Haiku seemed an apt poetry form for a subject like the wonderful Professor Brun. Terse and to-the-point and very disciplined.

It's a good thing Brun isn't the one reading these, she'd probably slap you silly.

This is very true. I am very fond of her and her class and her non-smile, however. And will endeavour to not to naff her off unnecessarily.

You never know; miracles could happen and she could fall for it!

I am positive that I am not the first, nor indeed the best-looking or cleverest, fellow whose heart hath been slain by her very one-of-a-kind non-smile. If she has never fallen for it before, I doubt she will make an exception in my case.

Brun? Really? Suck up to Hookum in your journal and you'll get an O in muggle studies.

But sucking up to professors isn't the right way to earn good marks, not when it's the wizarding examinations authority that will eventually decide what we get on our NEWTs. Plus, I'm a Muggleborn, so Muggle Studies isn't extremely difficult for me.
