Enter Job.

Here is a guy who has a pretty damn good life. Then the devil and God make a wager. The devil will fuck Job's shit up, and the wager is to see if Job retains his devotion to God. What's really interesting is the only rule. The devil can do anything he wants, but he can't touch Job's wife.

I find that absolutely fascinating, that Love is held to be paramount in this story. That destroying someones relationship is the only thing that could possibly jar one's faith in God, hence the devil not being allowed to attack Mrs. Job.

Obviously, in God's eyes (or at least the bible's) Love is meant to be paramount, that one thing that not even the strongest human being could live without.

So why do we deny it (or at least a legal expression of it) to certain people?
