What a night....

As many of you know I was able to attend the big Obama Rally in Grant Park last night!! What an amazing experience it was! It was truly unforgetaable to be there and watch history be made. Pennsylvania was already called before we even got into the arena. So I knew the race was already won for us by the time we got inside. That made the night more enjoyable as I was able to relax and celebrate right away!! They had a huge screen set up that was showing CNN. Every time projections would come in the crowd would cheer loudly (or boo depending on who won the particular state)! There are 2 moments from last night that will stay with me for the rest of my life. First was when they called Virginia. The crowd went CRAZY when they called Virginia!! Victory was indeed ours but it meant so much more than that! Virginia is the birthplace of the Confederacy. As recently as the early 1960's Barack Obama's parent's marriage wasn't just not recognized, but it was illegal in Virginia!! 25 years later they elected the first African American president! Truly amazing, inspiring and wonderful!! The energy at this point inside the rally was insane. Excitement was boiling over! It was maybe 10 minutes after they called Virginia that CNN said that major polls were about to close. They then showed a countdown starting at 10. The entire crowd counted down with the clock. As soon as it hit zero the crowd errupted and CNN had Breaking News: More Projections! The crowd fell silent for a second and we stared at the screen...it didn't show projections, it only said "BARACK OBAMA WINS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION"!!!!!! The entire place was out of control!! Everyone was jumping up and down, waving flags, hugging each other, screaming, crying, going crazy!!! I was jumping up and down and yelling so hard that I got light headed and thought I was going to pass out! Everyone was hugging and so many people were crying. I had tears in my eyes for sure. What a night.

It wasn't until this morning, when I finally really thought about it, that I actually cried real tears. What an amazing ride this has been. To watch the most successful campaign in the history of American politics win with record breaking poll numbers was awesome! Obama won this race with a message of hope and unity. I have truly never been so moved by a politician as I am by Barack Obama. I have never, in my lifetime, heard a politician talk like he does with so much honesty, hope, truth and with such a positive message.

Regardless of who you voted for in this election I really hope that you all take the time to listen to Obama's acceptance speech. I hope that everyone takes his words seriously and understands that division is no longer an option. We need to ALL work together to get this country back on track. Just electing a new, progressive leader is not enough. Last night was only a big step in the right direction.

Peace!
Abby
