Remember tonight, for it is the beginning of always - Dante Alighieri

Today I saw two people; old as old can be, holding hands while walking together. And yet, wrinkled-faced with beauty that's hard to see, they could, still, burden one another with so much love and sincere worship in the way they looked at each other; as if falling in love for the first time. It was such a precious sight. I look at the old couple. And I'm still in awe of how two very different people can love each other for so long. It's nice to know that in a world filled with broken dreams and shattered hearts, some still do get their happily ever afters after all.

A friend told me once that he enjoyed the feeling of being in love more than his girlfriend; having your heart swell against the prison of your ribs and grow to keep your lungs from seeking air with no release, drunk with the glory of a dreaming that you might, perhaps, be loved in return. He chases the feeling not the lover. But who wants to be a fool for love? We'd all rather be fools in love.

I hope everyone in the world, straight or gay, ends up like that old couple. To be with the person you love till you're old, gray and full of sleep. And everyday, by leaning over the precipice of each others' presence and absence in hopeless fusion, find the secret of loving each other; always for the first time. Perhaps love really is the emblem of eternity because it confounds all notion of time, effaces all memory of a beginning and all fear of an end.
