I don't know why on earth people I've never even met decided that I, for some reason, am not real, among other things, but it's happened way too many times this morning for me to pretend it isn't happening. Let's get this over with.

That's exactly it! A library card is something you actually use. When are we ever going to use our Social Security cards?

It does! Someone who identifies themselves by how often they read books is clearly better than someone who identifies themselves by how much money they're going to gather once they've retired.

You're so much nicer than some of the other people I spoke to today. I wish I had met you sooner.

Well, okay! Let's see. You're very clever and your priorities are clearly in order, too. We'd probably work really well together. I bet if we had our own country, there would be a library on every street corner and no Social Security whatsoever. There would be national holidays where people could get together and celebrate the publishing dates for their favorite books.
