Didn't I mention the addiction the other day? I knew it wouldn't be long before people were talking about it, but I'm sure they were back then, too. Yep, they wanna strike for new U.S. oil. It's like looking for a new cocaine supplier. Gasoline is not a path to the future but repetition of the past. If the government weren't so corrupt, the oil lobby wouldn't have dominated for so long. Geeze, even Henry Ford many decades ago thought ethanol was the way of the future. People took him for a great innovator, except for that part maybe. Many Ford vehichles are actually FFV, the flex vehicles that can also take (I believe) up to certain concentrations of alcohol. I'm sure there are other alternatives, too. It's not always about the cost either but also about the quality. Let's not forget that. And let's not solve this problem by continuing the habit. Yes, it does hurt but eventually the pain gets suppressed to the point where it's ineffective on a large scale.

FDR greatly changed the role of government in the United States. It seems like we're reaching a point where it's really changing "back?". Except for the fiscally-ruinous entitlement programs, it seems as though the trend is breaking. Of course, the entitlement programs might go (and some should), but people will really fight that because it's now an American value that the government will bail people out, etc.
