Cordelia Returns

The Charmed Ones are sitting about in the living room one evening. There is a sudden flash of light and Cordelia suddenly appears. "Finally!" She says. "I thought the Elders were *never* going to get tired of lecturing me. I mean, can those guys *talk*! Honestly, how much hot air does it take to keep talking that long? Anyhow, I'm back now,

I was still annoyed with her, but she was growing on me. Like a fungus. No, I need to give her a chance.

"Hi there, Cordelia. Good to see you." I told her. "Those elders, they can be annoying."

Plus, we seemed to feel the same way about the elders, which wins her points with me.

"So, anything we should know about? Or are we in downtime right now? That would be nice."

Downtime at the moment. I'm supposed to take some time to get to know you. That and the elders want to see if I can behave. How have you guys been while I was gone?"

"We've been okay. No, wait, we've been really good. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop, because I know this won't last. It never does."

I was wishing I was still with Leo, traveling the world and making love. Nothing against Cordelia, I just hated that that ended.

"So you have to stay away from Angel, that has to be hard." I said, trying to turn the conversation back on her.

I sigh and make a face. "Yeah. Well, you know, the whole thing with Angel was always kinda iffy anyway because of the whole happiness clause thing. It's a real bummer, though, because I always kinda had this thought in the back of my head that I'd end up with him. Between the rotten PTB and the Elders, we seem to be pretty much fated to stay apart." I give a resigned frown, and settle onto the couch.

"Well, I know I fought for Leo over and over. But if you think it's best that you stay apart, maybe that's the way it has to be."

I leaned back against the couch. It was so quiet without the boys here. I felt myself almost falling asleep.

"Uh, anyway. Things have been good. Really good. Except for my club which still needs payments and repairs, but that's slowly coming along. And that girl we rescued, she's doing really well."

"I *did* fight for him. Why do you think I was gone so long? I never thought I'd meet anyone more stubborn than Angel, but those elders take the cake. They wouldn't let me come back at *all* unless I gave him up. At least this way..." I look sad, and my voice trails off. "At least this way I can still see him, and help him sometimes." I take a moment and then force on a smile. "Glad to hear everything is going well. Makes my job easy, at least for now."

"Oh...I just thought they were lecturing you..." I said in a lameass attempt to cover up my mistake.

"But, you know, it's nice that you can watch over him. At least they're letting you do that." I could tell she really had feelings for him. I felt bad that she had to give him up and glad that Leo and I turned out the way we did.

"Yeah, your job won't always be easy with us. In fact, you'll get downright annoyed with us. I mean Leo, I'm surprised he didn't kill us with the amount of times we called on him."

"Yeah. You know what finally convinced me to give in, though? You said you fought for Leo. I kept expecting Angel to come fight for me. And he never did. I guess I didn't mean as much to him as Leo does to you." I chew my lip. "I mean, he took trials from the PTB to save Darla, who he claims he didn't really love. He forced them to do that, to try to heal her. If it really mattered to him that I could be with him..." I look down. "Nothing would have stopped him coming for me. He doesn't take no for an answer, not when he really cares."

"Well, I don't think it's that he doesn't care. I mean, he's had a lot going on with his son and the babies, not to forget the saving of Julie and dealing with Makayla, the new slayer. There's just a lot going on."

I had to defend Angel. She couldn't just think that he didn't care at all because I know that's not true. He does care about her.

"I'm sure he was devastated when you told him you couldn't see him anymore. Angel's a good guy, er, vampire, er, you know what I mean."

[cordywhiteltr]

"Oh. I haven't gone to see him yet. And yeah, he is a good guy. He just didn't love me enough to come fight for me. I didn't matter enough." I look at Piper. "I should go see him." And I orb out.
