Families & Summer Vacation

Jul 20, 2012 17:01

It's summer time. That means my family is coming in from all over the world to play in sunny Florida. They are on vacation and when I can tear myself away from my desk, I get to spend time with them. These drop ins are a blessing. I don't normally get to see these people and my work schedule really prohibits the type of travel that visiting them would involve. Instead, they all come to the beach.

I've also been waiting for news of which footballers are also down here.  And noticing something else about the last half of the summer.

Since the end of Euro2012, I've noticed pics of footballers and their girlfriends, wives, families, enjoying summer playgrounds. Pics like this:

This is my beloved Xabi Alonso and his family. Two things come to mind. First. His legs are incredible. Second. I wonder how much time he gets to spend with his kids during the season. Considering that the Euro final was just a few days ago and training for the new season is underway (they have some upcoming friendlies that I wonder if he will travel with the team to attend), he has a short vacation this year. This could in fact, be a heart breaking picture; even though everyone seems so happy.

I have always thought that I'd rush a player if I ever saw him, no matter when, no matter what. Now that I see this, and I think this. I know that's not true anymore. I won't be able to squeeze in beach time this weekend. I'll have to wait for the pictures.
