Christmas Shopping

Oct 15, 2011 16:18

I live in South Florida. Christmas here is like a joke. It's usually 75 degrees or hotter. There are not even vibrant leaves, let alone snow. It's perfectly common to drive through a neighborhood and be lulled by the smells of BBQ.  It's not unlikely to find families on the beach.

I bought Christmas ornaments today. My Christmas tree theme is "woodland creatures." I have little white fawns, owls and bunnies. Today I bought little white birds. Last year, I studied the origins of Christmas traditions. I am on a hunt for a Father Christmas like the one in the picture above. I learned that the old man with the beard who flies across the winter solstice night sky giving gifts to children starts with a tale of Odin and his 8-legged reindeer. It actually let me have fun with all the pagan symbols of the season.  So this year, I'm on search from the above both stateside and across the pond. Happy Christmas!
