The First Lines of my Last 21 Fics

The last twenty-one first lines I wrote in fanfic. I'd love to be asked about them, or have people point out any trend that they can spot.
1. It was hard for them.
2. The humid air hung heavy with exhaust, dirt and the stench of millions of people coming together all at once.
3. Rose's breaths quickened despite her attempts to quell her rising panic.
4. The quiet seemed laden with expectation.
5. The sharp yipping was starting to grate on her nerves.
6. The August night was warm, the heat from the day still lingering in the air, curling the ends of Hermione's hair even more than usual as she paused outside of the Burrow's gates.
7. The gray mist of the morning clings to the boardwalk, the cold seeping through the thin soles of the slippers that she hadn't thought to change in her sudden urgency to come here.
8. (Kind of cheated on this, but all the words are kind of in the same sentence.) Lines. Boundaries. Barriers. These are the words that she understands.
9. Your throat hurts from the screaming.
10. My, my, my, a lonely man is such an easy mark.
11. The corner of the coffee table sagged briefly as Draco tried to get a better grip on it.
12. "I'm surprised that you're in town during the Season, Bill," Molly Weasley remarked as she sat back with her cup of hot tea.
13. He was left gasping on the floor of his console room, his mouth drinking nothing in but the cold bare air of his ship.
14. His dark gaze makes your skin tingle and your blood burn.
15. Tom opened his eyes slowly, the remnants of a pleasant dream still lingering in his mind like the flavor of a well-aged wine.
16. He ducked as the heavy battle axe swung towards his neck, coming up under the brute's arms to drive his sword into the man's belly, his wrist bending with the force of the blow.
17. Walking onto the second level of Engineering to find Tom flirting with Lieutenant Nicoletti was not something B'Elanna wanted to see at the start of her shift.
18. She doesn't know what to call it, what she feels when he holds her in his arms on that train ride back to the Capitol.
19. He thinks he fell in love with her the first time he set his eyes on her.
20. "I've decided that if you divert power from the forward nacelles when the ship's at Warp 8, the backlash will create a subspace wormhole leading directly to the Alpha Quadrant."
