So, the family and I hiked Half Dome last week! I started the 17-ish-mile hike extremely uncertain about how I'd do, whether I could complete it, etc., and it was in fact *wonderful*. The weather was perfect, we camped one night for fun by the Merced River, and on the morning we actually climbed to the top of Half Dome, the weather was beautiful, cool, sunny--perfect.
The only scary part for me was the cables, because that granite is smooth, slick, and perpendicular to the freakin' ground. No, really. (Okay, yes I'm exaggerating slightly, but still. Steep.)
I'm really enjoying the sense of accomplishment, and I'm remembering that when I prepare for, and then do, things like this, it makes it much harder to even pretend that "I can't do" something. Anything.
Anyway, it's a wonderful, phenomenal hike that I highly recommend, even though my friend and I were by far the fattest people on the entire trail. Seriously.
On an entirely different note, thanks again to Van for the lovely Chris/Buck icon!
