Thursday: The Habit of Fear

Nov 15, 2012 22:47

On something she's dreading:

Cole hadn't outright said she'd draw attention as a native of a peninsula city who couldn't swim.  Only, "This is your chance for complete freedom.  Take it."

And she wanted to be free more than anything now, certainly more than she wanted to hold onto the fear out of sentiment. But.  She could aim a basketball, a punch, a camera lens.   Swimming, in Prue's mind, meant flailing.  Desperate grasping for leverage and air.  And now she was going to step into a conjured pool to try and change that image. For the mission.  With only Cole there to grasp at.

"Suppose," she says, as they prepare, "suppose I start to sink."

He adjusts the shoulder strap of her suit.  "The Source would have me flamed into oblivion if I so much as thought of letting you drown."

And that fact was something to hold onto.
