This was an interesting exercise! I went through the dramatic situations one by one and thought about which of my characters fit into that.
Crime punished by vengeance - In
heil_hans 's story, his war crimes are punished by his tortured immortality.
Disaster- features in a lot of my stories. In short stories like A Price to Play, Hank meets with a wartime disaster that ruins his ability to play his beloved instruments. In
michael_malone's story, he suffers the abandonment of a parent.
Falling prey to cruelty or misfortune -
vavarner has a cruel mother that causes a lot of his problems. He's also kidnapped by vampires at one point in his story.
Revolt - In
iggynatius 's story, he and his group are breaking the established order of the Church and exposing the corruption there, ultimately bringing about a change in how things work. I've also explored this theme a lot in roleplay in the past, having a game that was set with a group of humans rebelling against the supernatural leaders of their society, for example.
Daring Enterprise - Adventure! It features in many character's lives including the aforementioned Iggy, and
so_necromantic who winds up saving his town with his necromantic powers.
Abduction- See Val's story above - he was kidnapped by vampires once.
Enmity of Kinsmen - A lot of my characters have strained relationships with one or more members of their family. Val and his mother, Michael and his father have a strained relationship and his mother is missing, Hans had a rocky relationship with his father -- a common theme in my writings.
Murderous Adultery - In
ttturner's story, his ex-wife is murdered -- either by Tommy himself, or by one of her lovers. It isn't clear which at the beginning of the tale.
Self sacrificing for an ideal - Iggy has to learn how to balance his life and duty. At first he rebels against being the Hand of God, but then he takes his duty seriously and sacrifices certain freedoms to do what he needs to do.
Self sacrificing for kindred- Tommy finally has to 'grow up and get a real job' and make a lot of responsible decisions when he finds himself the single parent of his infant son Jake.
Rivalry of a superior and inferior - Iggy vs Monsignor Benedict, his school's dean of discipline who is out to ruin him
Adultery -
petegreene 's wife was having an affair before they divorced. Tommy's wife was unfaithful.
Obstacles to love - A lot of my characters have this. Val's lover is a vampire. Iggy's lover Christian is male and an excommunicated gnostic, two big no-nos in his society. Pete's insecurities of middle age and Tatja mourning her dead husband are issues in their relationship. Michael's social anxiety and his unresolved issues with his mother become issues in his relationships, as does the eventual fame of his band.
Ambition - Michael pursues fame for his band, Heck pursues success for his necromantic business,
eachbeansoup pursues a better status in society and is always looking for opportunities to increase his financial standing and his connections.
Conflict with a God- Iggy struggles with accepting his fate, and coming to his own personal definition of faith in the face of his destiny.
Remorse- A big element in Hans's story, the remorse he feels for his war crimes and how he seeks to atone for them. In Tommy's story, he's not sure whether or not he killed his ex-wife-- but he's sorrowful for the possibility he may have, and has regrets over how their relationship deteriorated. Michael is sorry for how his relationship with Jenny ended, and how much of his time with his father was wasted in them arguing (a fact he only realizes when his father is dying).
Loss of loved ones - Hans outliving his family. Val's mother being murdered by his lover. Tommy's loss of his ex-wife (he loved her once). Tatja's loss of her husband. Pete's divorce and having his children go off to college (not a loss by death but still a loss).
Mistaken identity - Tommy unsure whether or not he is a killer, and being viewed with suspicion by those around him.
