Tuesday: Head or Heart

Jan 27, 2011 12:43

Many years ago now, he had been one of the Assassins, and many men probably thought that to kill so silently, so ruthlessly, that his head was the one that ruled. Nasir knew different. It was his faith that led him to that deadly sect, to become one of their faithful and a rafiq* among them.

It had been because of his heart that he had broken his vows and disobeyed when they ordered him to kill his teacher and brother. He maimed him, but could not deliver the fatal blow.

It had been his heart that, when Robin of Loxley freed him from the sorceror's enslavement, he sought out the wolfsheads in Sherwood and joined them.

It had been his heart that sent him in a single-handed attack against Gisburne's soldiers in an effort to free Will and John. He killed at least a dozen before he was forced to surrender.

It had been his heart, as well as gut instinct, that led him to find Marian in the hands of Owen of Clun and take part in those gladiatorial-style combats in order to stay close enough to protect her.

It had been his heart that made him certain of joining Robert of Huntingdon while the other Merries still had their doubts.

It had been his heart that led to one of his most difficult decisions in his life. Fight his brother once again, to the death or condemn his friends. His heart made that decision, not his head, and Sarak died.

His loyalty, his friendships, his life and his heart belonged in Sherwood now.
