Dressing Up

Sep 30, 2009 17:10

The Black and White Masquerade was supposed to be a celebration, a new start, a new year. Though Buquet was never far from anyone's mind, all tried to forget the horrible way the man had died: hanged in the middle of a performance.

Meg had also wanted it to be a fresh start. Buquet was no longer around to torment her, and she decided to make the best of it. She wanted to be noticed, visible, and in no way resemble the other "ballet brats". She had beseeched Madame DuMond, the costume mistress, to create a gown for her that would show her off to an advantage. Madame DuMond decided that a swan should be the inspiration for Meg's costume. It was symbolic of both grace and poise as well as a transformation from youth to adulthood.

The dress was positively perfect and with her blonde tresses curled high on her head, Meg made her entrance along with her mother, MM Firmin and André, Carlotta and Piangi. Perhaps tonight someone would notice her. Perhaps he would be there!
