As far as images go- We just ask that folks use common sense for what's too large. As these aren't stretching the screen, there's really no problem here.
As far as your comment goes - We do have a policy against drama - inflammatory comments included. Please refrain from stirring things up by phrasing things in a rude or derogatory manner.

My original comment wasn't out of line, however, I think your fellow mod's comment was out of line and was unnecessarily rude. She could have come back with a simple answer like the one you gave.
You can set up LJ to use placeholder images so you won't have problems with large ones causing extra load time - that's something I heard helps for dial up.
I'm sorry for your internet deficiency, but I don't want to change a long standing policy of the community. One of our big things here is that we have the minimal rules possible, thus making it easy to post and enjoy.
Having restrictions like a set image size would go against that spirit.
