Takeru's tatemae is of a polite student, one who works hard and plays hard, sticks to the rules, and achieves higher than what one would normally expect from a student of his age. He's a star basketball player, he's amazing at his studies, and generally is an all-around good boy. He's suffered terrible losses in the form of losing his brother and his friends to the dangers of the Digital World, but he presses on.
His honne is a different matter. His private face is driven at best and can be absolutely ruthless at worst. He aims to conquer the Digital World (he would say "monitor", but it amounts to the same thing in this case) and absolutely refuses to let anyone stand in his way. Not his former friends, not his former partner, no one. Part of him is still the good boy that he was in his first trip to the Digital World, but most of him has been twisted by the Dark Seed, fueled by grief and anger and a drive to make sure no one suffers the same losses.
To put it mildly, there's a huge gulf, since he doesn't let most people see his honne, only his enemies, and pretty much only in the Digital World. He sees the separation as a necessary evil... but if he were in his right mind? He wouldn't like it at all.
