Title:Don't Let Me Fall Asleep
Rating:G Fluff.
Pairing:Ryan/Brendon (For such a big Bwalk fan I write a lot of Ryden)
Summary:Watching the sunrise is something Ryan, on occasion, loves to do. He thinks it’s probably that he gets to be one of the first to see the beginning of a new day before anyone else.
Disclaimer:Do Not Own. Did Not Happen.
Author Notes:I was listening to "Pressure" by Paramore and the line "don't let me fall asleep" inspired me to write this...I don't know.
One thing Brendon has always wanted to do is watch the sun come up. The only problem is he can’t stay awake past 4 AM and the sun doesn’t come up until around 5. He wants to ask Ryan how he does it, how he doesn’t feel the need to race the sun to sleep. Ryan’s always the one person he wants to watch the sun come up with, on the hood of his car, out in the desert, as far away from the Vegas lights as possible.
Watching the sunrise is something Ryan, on occasion, loves to do. He thinks it’s probably that he gets to be one of the first to see the beginning of a new day before anyone else. Or maybe it’s the beauty in the pink slash orange slash blue hue over the horizon. Sometimes the roof of his apartment building accompanied by a blanket, a fresh cup of coffee, and maybe a lightly snoring Brendon is the best place to write in the morning. He just wishes Brendon would stay awake long enough to see the beauty he does in the morning. Well the beauty in the sunrise and the sleeping boy in his bed.
Today Brendon made it a point to sleep until 3 PM and lounge around Ryan’s apartment in nothing but sweatpants. Not even a shirt. He is determined to stay awake until dawn to see one sunrise with Ryan. When he decides to tell Ryan this he doesn’t just casually say, “Hey we’re gonna watch the sun rise.” No. He decides to lay right on top of his napping boyfriend on the couch and cover his face in kisses until he wakes up. When he does it’s with a very tired and mumbled, “Whadya need, babe?” Brendon chuckles and gives him one more kiss on the lips.
“We’re going to watch the sun come up today. Er, in the morning.” Ryan looks at him a little shocked and kind of confused. He’s never offered to stay up. No. He loves his sleep. Ryan always asked him.
“Are you sure you’ll be able to stay awake?” He asks with a cocked eyebrow. Brendon nods.
“As long as you don’t let me fall asleep. And maybe with a few energy drinks and sour patch kids.” Brendon says with a childish grin that’s begging for the treats.
Ryan thought it was cute just how addicted his boyfriend was to caffeine and sugar. While he can’t say hyper Brendon isn’t annoying sometimes he also can’t deny that he’s utterly adorable at the same time. So of course he agrees to buy Brendon his “drug of choice” and they’d head out into the desert early in the morning.
They pack blankets for the cuddling and a small picnic. Come on, doesn’t a picnic in the middle of a desert on the hood of a car watching the sun come up sound romantic? Or at least adorable in a completely Brendon way. They tell Jon and Spencer about their plans but Spencer just laughs and says, “While you two are freezing your asses off outside we’ll be snuggling in my bed after some amazing sexual activity.” Brendon doesn’t mind the cold and besides, doesn’t body heat sound so much warmer?
At 3 AM Ryan and Brendon bring everything to Brendon’s car and drive off into the desert. When they can’t see any of the bright lights of the Strip or anything in front of them Brendon pulls the car over and off the road, facing the direction Ryan said the sun would come up in.
For a good twenty minutes Brendon dances in the head lights and sings along to every song that comes on the radio. Even the ones he doesn’t know. He is putting on a pretty good show for Ryan who is sitting on the hood of the car and smiling and laughing at the wonderful, amazing, childish performance in front of him that is so completely Brendon. Ryan jumps off the car and joins him in his spazzy motions and deliberately off-key notes. He doesn’t care if they look like fools. With Brendon he is the most extroverted, outgoing person in the world.
At 4 AM they turn off the headlights and cuddle up on the hood of the car and pick at the unhealthy picnic they packed. Doritos, Fritos, Sour Patch Kids, and Red Bull. They lie back over the windshield and look at the few stars left in the slightly brighter sky while munching on chips. Damien Rice’s CD “O” is playing in the car radio setting a perfect, relaxed mood.
“Don’t let me fall asleep.” Brendon whispers at 5 AM into the older boys ear, chin resting on his shoulder. The sky is a light gray color and in the distance on the horizon they see an orange glow lighting the sky a little.
“I promise I wont let you, Bren.” Ryan whispers deeply. He always thought his voice was a little too deep for him, didn’t fit his personality.
Despite that, Ryan keeps talking to Brendon. Maybe he’s not really saying anything. Brendon responds by cuddling into Ryan more and resting his head on his chest and wrapping both arms around his waist. Ryan keeps talking while threading his fingers through Brendon’s hair. They’re still looking into the distance.
The sky is getting blue but on the horizon the sun is almost up, surrounded by a pink and orange glow. Brendon makes Ryan take a picture of it and then of them, snuggling up to each other. In the last second before the picture is taken Brendon reaches up and kisses Ryan on the cheek. Ryan smiles wide and snaps the picture.
It’s sometime around 9, Damien Rice is still on in the car and Brendon’s eyes are halfway shut. Ryan offers to drive. While Brendon climbs into the passenger seat he mumbles, “Don’t lemme fall asleep ‘til we’re home.” Ryan smiles and doesn’t say he wont.
As Ryan drives the 10 minutes back into Vegas he tries to keep his eyes on the road but keeps glancing back at the sleeping boy slumped down low in the passenger seat, the early morning rays dancing on his porcelain skin. Ryan thinks the sun will have to take a second place in his favorite and most beautiful things to see in the morning.
