Microsoft Office Suite 2007
Check this out! I'm talking about Microsoft and NOT using my 'I hate Microsoft' icon. It must be a first. (grin)
So, today I upgraded both Jeff and Laura to Office 2007. So far Rosanna, Carol and I have it -- and now Jeff and Laura.
I've been using Outlook 2007 for several days now, and I like it a lot. There are some things about it I don't much like, but overall I DO like it -- and am comfortable using it.
Word 2007 is QUITE different from 2000 and 2003, but thanks to online and Google, I was figuring out the settings within the first half hour of use. It's simple to reset the Default Save to the .doc format (rather than .docx), which was a serious concern for me. The Quick Access Toolbar is 100% customizable, which is very cool -- allowing me to add what I want/need to have close to hand.
When I went in and couldn't locate Tools, I was pretty much 'WTF' -- then I discovered the Office button (in the upper left-hand corner). And inside the window that opened, the Word Options button. Now I'm good to go for all the changes I need to make (and then some).
By the way, if anyone needs the steps to do any of this (customizing Word 2007), just let me know. I'm always glad to share! (I have to write up the steps for the festival office anyway, so it's not like it's a pain to do...)
The installation process doesn't really take that long. (Probably around 15-20 minutes, give or take.) But opening Outlook 2007 for the first time? It's BRUTAL! Especially for people with huge email profiles (like both Carol and Jeff). I can only imagine what it will be like trying to set up Marilyn!!! Scary. (grin)
Anyway, this has been primarily an IT-related day. I had to answer questions for our Auditors via Rosanna about our IT Policies and Practices. I was annoyed to discover how much of what they had for last year was wrong (!!!), but Rosanna has my back on that this year, so they'll get it the way they should have it. (sigh) I'm happy to have that out of the way, as they took up way too much of my time last year, believe me.
I have more website things to do for both the festival (!!!) and PSSCA, but I'm not pressing myself all that much now. It will get done when it gets done.
Marilyn and I are about ready to focus on Christmas at this point. One more work day left, then we'll see if we do any work until next week!
Of course, considering I need a new banner on the Home page of the festival website and have an eBulletin due out next week, I'll probably reconsider this. Unless I get in and get it done tomorrow! Could happen...
Everyone except Marilyn and me are gone now. She's in a PSSCA meeting right now (in her office), and I'm actually sitting in my own space working. Most of the day I haven't been near my own computer, so this is big! It's not really late (it's around 6:00 p.m. as I type this), so I don't mind that we're still here. AND we took a lunch break today (!!!), so we have had some food to eat. (Plus Rich, Pattye and I went for Starbucks this morning...)
On the negative side, sister Sue is TERRIBLY ill. She's got a serious sinus infection and bronchitis -- and her doctor was afraid she was headed toward pneumonia, as well (happily not the case at this point). She's supposed to stay down and rest -- and is on heavy-duty meds -- so it's possible she won't be spending Christmas Eve at our house this year. (Usually the three of us have Chinese takeout at home -- a long-standing family tradition. Last year we went to a new place that's close by our house, and even had a drink in the bar side of the restaurant while waiting for them to get our food ready. It was so nice!)
I'm disgusted that we haven't done a single Christmas card (!!!) -- or prepared any gifts, including those that needed to be mailed. We've been so busy this month. We barely find time to eat and sleep, so that's just how it goes, I guess. I suppose people will forgive us if stuff is really late getting to them...
Well, if I go back to work now, I'll have less to do tomorrow and later on -- so I'm going back to it! There are some lovely snacks in the office, including cookies and CHOCOLATE (including some expensive chocolates!), so it's hard to be good. Well, my blood count has been amazing recently, so I guess I won't worry too much.
Oh! I forgot to mention that my desk was BURIED with packages from dear friends, including Sue and Dennis, Carol and Charold! I need to start hauling it all to the car, I guess! How thoughtful!
