Happy Kwanzaa (A Bit Early) -- Icons to Share

Dec 13, 2009 14:41

As many of you know, some of Marilyn's mistressmarilyn and my closest and dearest friends are Blacks (African Americans and people of color from all over the world), so I wouldn't think of not including Kwanzaa in my collections of holiday icons.

For those are interested and might not know, Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration held basically in the United States that honors African heritage and culture. It's marked by participants lighting a kinara (candle holder), and is celebrated from December 26 to January 1 each year. Kwanzaa is one of the primary holidays within the U.S. holiday season. The seven days of Kwanzaa feature activities that include candle-lighting and pouring of libations that culminate with a feast and gift giving. The Principles of Kwanzaa are wonderful and include: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity) and Imani (Faith). (You can read more at the official website, located HERE.)

  1. Credit expected and appreciated. (Thanks!)
  2. These aren't 'icon bases' -- but you may add your username (and text within reason). (If asked nicely I've been known to add usernames for people...)
  3. Comments are greatly appreciated, too!

Again, a true delight to make -- and to share. Please enjoy!
