Marilyn
mistressmarilyn and I were at the office by 7:50 a.m. Amazingly enough, most people began to arrive by around 8:00 a.m., or shortly thereafter. It was a very busy day of packing up all over the office. (I was more than a little surprised Ron B. didn't show up to help. No problem, we had lots of help. But here's the thing: Don't tell me you're going to be there if you're not. End of story. That's how I feel about all volunteers, by the way...)
The last to leave were Christie, Carol, Marilyn and me (of course). Christie left just before us, and Carol was still there when we two took off.
Workhorses? People were really breaking their backs! It was impressive stuff, I have to tell you. I can't get over how much we got rid of it. We'd gathered so many supplies and things over the years. Happily, the recycling woman will take tons of it from us and be sure it's put to good use!
It was a beautiful, clear autumn day -- dry and sunny. When Marilyn and I left at around 3:30 p.m., we took a ride down to Sauvie Island, getting some hot dogs on the way. By the time we got back home we watched a little TV and then promptly took long naps. We were wiped out, as most people were!
I can't tell you how many heroes there were today -- people just working so hard and long to get things done. All the offices and cubes that will soon be occupied by the new owners are empty and waiting for next week. The computers that will be moving are broken down and waiting for the official movers to come in and pack them up.
We still need to finish packing our own spaces for the next phase of the move, but that doesn't happen until November 20, so there's plenty of time for that. I can't even tell you how many times I'd try to go to my desk and find my way blocked by STUFF. Anything IT-related would be stuck in my space, naturally. And other things that would baffle me when I saw them! Interesting, I have to tell you. I'd thought I was in pretty good shape for my personal part of the move, but think again, Charlie! Well, I'll try to help everyone (especially Marilyn) before phase two.
Meanwhile, next Thursday is our annual Board Meeting -- and Marilyn and I need to get a PowerPoint done before then.
Monday night our Writing Circle meets. Marilyn and I both need to write our stories tomorrow, then I need to clean house before we have the group over. I did get a small start yesterday, but there's lots more to do.
NaNoWriMo starts a week from today, and Marilyn and I are planning to go to the local Portland midnight Write-In. That should be fun! We have no other plans for Halloween this year, really. Sister Sue
suzy_qp will be away at a cribbage tournament and we're skipping our annual office party because of the new owners moving in -- which we're both fine with, as we don't have the energy or inclination to come up with costumes this year.
We do have a couple of pumpkins out on the front steps (they came from the Auction) and will probably put out some decorations. And we'll buy and give away candy, of course. That's all good.
Marilyn has to work on Monday and we'll both be there bright and early on Tuesday morning (I want to watch the movers with the computers). But it seems almost like a holiday to be looking forward to Sunday off, even if we have a ton of things to get done (mostly writing). Perspective is everything, I guess!
I coughed a lot today, but it was my first full day up and around (with the exception of the Auction) since I got the flu -- so no surprise. And with all the dust we were kicking up it was no wonder! (Goodbye flu, hello seasonal allergies.)
Did I mention that we caught one mouse? Well, anyway, this morning we caught another one. Hopefully that's the last! I'm glad they never got from the garage inside the house (shudder), as it's bad enough to have them out there. And it's been making our cats nuts, who sit for hours near the back door (that leads to the garage) 'guarding' our house. (Good boys!) Yesterday at one point I let them both walk out into the garage -- and suddenly you could hear the high-pitched whine of a mouse and his pitter-patter up the metal door! He wasn't glad to get wind of them! We were both so proud to discover that the boys are natural mousers, just as they should be. (I'm sure that's what keeps the rodents out of the actual house.)
