Geta, you simply must read the books. I've read and re-read them all. I don't think Rowling is the best writer ever (I actually 'fix' her mistakes if I ever read aloud anything from the books), but she's come up with wonderful characters and amazing and fresh concepts that I've never read anywhere else...
And the movies are beautiful. We're so lucky to live in a time of technology that allows people to be able to recreate the incredible "Harry Potter" world that is inside the books. To be honest, I often feel they improve on the story in the movies, losing some of what drags on and on in the books.
You are only the second person I've ever known who hasn't read any of the books or seen any of the movies. My friend Shari loves fantasy and reads tons of it -- but I simply can't get her to even try and read any "Harry Potter" books. (And Marilyn and I gave her three of the movies for Christmas the year before last, and she's yet to watch a one...)
I also think much of the fanfic being written about Harry Potter is excellent. But it's hard to appreciate if you haven't either read the books or seen the movies. (You could probably enjoy it just from seeing the movies, though, for the most part.)
(smile)
I don't know if we've ever discussed reading, to date. I'm a crazy reader, always in the middle of five or more books at a time. (Always have been.) I love to read and inhale books.
And of course I'm crazy for movies, too.
By the way, several of my icons (like 'true joy') are based on Harry Potter.
