I love how this was a story but also a commentary on what has been lost. In particular, these lines really moved me.

No, the island didn’t need a humanitarian. But God they needed one here.

Uh huh, but if only the plane crash survivors had more Boones among them, there would have been more chance for peace. I liked how you linked examples of Alive!Boone's desperate wish in making difference with his new role now.

Your body can’t be brave when it knows it is shutting down. You can only find courage in your soul.

Dying is not as beautiful as it can be portrayed in art. I'm glad you mentioned the shame both Alex and Charlie felt during his hanging, one the witness and the other, the victim, both experiencing the mind and body being on separate paths when death comes.

He wanted Alex to know that she was respected here; she was valued.

Thank you Boone and thank you FF!

The lack of humanitarians is another thing that has been alienating me from Lost. It seems like every character has killed now, even Hurley. I can remember being troubled by Charlie killing Ethan in S1 but at least then they had a few moments showing Charlie being troubled by it. Now there's so much killing without consideration. We could really use a Boone right now.

No, death is not beautiful. Boone should know, his own death was so painful and gruesome. I'm glad he stopped Jack before he took his leg, because that would have done me in. Any type of execution style death really troubles me, but when it's a hostage being executed I just get sick to my stomach. I thought I could link Alex and Charlie on that level with his hanging, her shooting.

Thanks for reading!

Uhm, alright, before I start, let me please declare my undying love for this. I've been in a total Boone withdrawal/delusion crisis for some time and that was exactly what I needed. One can't ever have enough of his Zen self. And if I contributed in showing his character appealing, I can congratulate myself for once ;) that said..

Well, you really did channel him! Resident Boone expert says that he was just excellent. I especially loved all the reminders to his pacifism, from the chalk writings at the Amnesty rally to the way you linked it with his trying-to-be-useful efforts.

He supposed with its appetite for wars, purges and slaughter the island had little use for a pacifist liberal. And here I was nodding very, very earnestly. Extremely good point *curses the island*. Oh, and the whole sort of flashbacks to the Charlie hanging episode and that damned other one really worked. Of course I absolutely loved when Libby deferred to him. He so deserves to be deferred to at least now ;) And I won't get started at the effects his ( ... )

I'm so pleased to have the seal of approval from the Boone expert of LJ! As you know I started out with Alex POV and that made this fic painful beyond belief. I toyed around with other possible POVs and Boone was the one which nailed it. He brought both the zen and the humanity I needed. Perfect balance. The little beauty!

I love the idea that Boone is the leader in the Lostee afterworld. He deserves it. Then for Boone to gain both a cute rockstar undead!boyfriend and a second in command in Charlie is rather pleasing too.

The Alex, Danielle and Karl stuff was really painful, poor things. I think Charlie was overwelmed, but Boone knew how to negotiate the situation. He would have been a great peacemaker! I'm glad you liked his reflection at the end. It is a REAL struggle to find any thing positive to say about that god awful mess. Anyway, so chuffed you like it, janie! Sorry it has been long in coming.

It was all worth the wait! *gives you the official Boone club seal of approval* And yeah, I imagine that the final reflection must have been hard. Getting anything positive out of 95% of the stuff that happened this season up to now would be quite the most difficult thing to try, ever. *sighs*

Extremely moving. I was particularly heartbroken to hear Alex recounting her "father's" words of denouncement and betrayal. Of all the thinks I can never forgive Ben for, that moment - those words - are at the top of the list.

Thank you so much, Jen! Well, if Alex's death was supposed to give me sympathy for Ben it really didn't work. I just felt sick for Alex that those words were the last thing she heard.

I felt like crying when I was writing it. I guess it was an attempt to find a chink of light in the darkest places of the story. It's especially difficult when you can tell that Dalton themselves have no compassion whatsoever for these "pawn" characters. And yes, the fanbase in general does seem dismayed by Charlie's sacrifice being so wasted and undermined.

It was interesting to draw parallels between both Charlie/Boone and Charlie/Alex. Charlie just has so many dimensions you can connect him with almost anyone, usually in more ways than one. Sigh, poor Boone...he made the big following Locke mistake.

Oh, that was sad but brilliant. Poor, poor Alex. I loved how it was Charlie that talked to her because he understood. Beautifully written.

Thanks Jemmz! It just felt right for Charlie to be the one who councilled Alex through that.
