I'm back with a Plan B

I'm here to preach the gospel that is the exquisitely lovely film called Plan B, by Argentinian director Marco Berger. I recently watched it and I now I'm completely obsessed.

Plan B is about Bruno, who gets dumped by his girlfriend and when she gets another boyfriend, Pablo, Bruno decides he wants his girlfriend back. When it doesn't happen, he comes up with a brilliant plan: Bruno has heard that Pablo has been with guys before, so he befriends Pablo in order to seduce him so he'll break up with his girlfriend. It kind of backfires on him.

This is Bruno and Pablo:

This is a low-budget, low-key film which is truly a dream come true for me. Two supposedly straight guys falling love and being thouroughly confused by it. The pining and denial about pining is off the charts! It's what I love most about fanfiction come alive.

Furthermore, the two actors, Manuel Vignau and Lucas Ferraro, are so utterly convincing and natural that what their feeling seems entirely genuine. The thing about this movie, is that a lot of what's really important happens in silent scenes, or in just a few words. I watched this film a number of times now, and I can't stop being intrigued by how to interpret their expression and actions.

Bruno is so wonderfully confused about what he's doing. He keeps trying to 'out' Pablo, but it's not working he keeps stepping it up. But the thing is, he really does become best friends with Pablo and right from the beginning, you can see that, even when he's working his cunning plan, he means what he's saying when he talks to Pablo. So unwittingly, by being overt about possibly being interested in Pablo romantically, he is caught in his own trap.

And he keeps finding reasons to kiss Pablo...

Here, it's as a dare, a joke:

Here it's because he has 'a casting for a commerical shot in Ecuador for Iceland'. Best excuse ever.

And thus ensues the most adoralby awkward undressing/seduction scene ever beheld:

I can't recommend this film strongly enough! It's for anyone who likes good films, and stories about falling reluctantly in love, about UST, about pining, about cute guys kissing and sleeping together (just sleeping!)... *g*

And, if you, like me, feel like reading a coda to the film, there's one fabulously good one here.
