Time for my weekly Supernatural review:
I no next to nothing about directing and editing and whatnot so I couldn't tell you a thing about Jensen's debut effort as a director. I think I'd only notice if it was very different, or strange or just bad. But to me, on that front, it seemed like a normal SPN episode to me. Which, I suppose, IS a good review in itself.
Anyway, one of my favourite things about SPN, and one very important reason why I've been a fan for so long, is its sense of humour. The one that comes across even in the darkest of episodes as well as the more comedic episodes. I just love that fairly subtle, dark, sarcastic sort of grumpy kind of humour, it suits the show and it's just generally very funny. And this episode was very amusing indeed. Much more so than I expected from an episode mostly about Bobby. If it had been a very serious episode, I bet it WOULD have been boring, but seeing Bobby try and make his life work, was terrifically entertaining. I loved how a long-suffering Bobby sighed and huffed and puffed as things didn't go as he wanted.
I particularly loved how they made fun of Dean & Sam's whining about everything - and mostly about each other. It was a great moment, since the show is ALL about Dean & Sam's suffering. Normally, it's all from their POV, making their troubles seem bigger than everyone else's. It was great - and very funny - seeing that it's not always the case.
But for godssake, can women on this show please, PLEASE stop wearing a white night gown! Jeez. *g*
Back to Inception. :)
I find it interesting how the vast majority of writers have decided that Eames have tattoos. It's a classic case of RL bleeding into fiction, as I see it. So yeah, Eames does share a face and a body with Tom Hardy, but in the movie, we never see any trace of tattoos. I mean, we don't see any of those body parts without clothes, right? So giving Eames tattoos, shouldn't really be more likely than any other character, I think. I'm sure that if Tom Hardy didn't have any tattoos, the vast majority of writers would never even think of Eames having any. On the other hand, I don't think, given Eames profession as a 'thief' and possibly shady background, that it's terribly unlikely that he does have a few tattoos. I just want writers to consider that from the stand point of who Eames is, and not who Tom Hardy is.
Secondly, I find it interesting that I've yet to see any Inception art that manages to capture Tom's (or Eames, if you wish) features in a way that pleases me. And most of the time JGL's too. It's weird. There's so much good art in SPN fandom and in the Holmes fandom, for instance, but everytime I've followed a rec or something for art supposedly really good, I don't get it at all. The two guys just look really, really strange. What do you think? I'd love to find stuff that works!
Finally, Tom Hardy + Batman = True! I'm not a Batman fan, by any means (I haven't seen any of Nolan's Batman films) but I love seeing Tom getting such great parts. And as he propells to stardom, I hope he doesn't lose any of that fantastic ability to be anyone that he has, and that he won't be afraid to both be horrible and ugly or beautiful. (Kind of like I wish Dean & Sam would look worse from time to time. US mainstream television is much too polished, IMO. I'd love for them to look pale and haggard and dirty. They do live on the road! Who fixes their nails and hair all the time? Where do they get that tan?) My favourite thing right now is this
Kleenex ad that Tom did last year, because good god can he cry! And look at that last shot, which presumably is from after filming is over, when he can't stop crying! He's so bloody into it. Amazing.
But I'll leave you with yet another gif I made, which I find tremendously amusing. It's from that previously mentioned
French interview with the Inception cast. JGL mentions how filming his big anti-gravitational scene was the most fun he's ever had, physically. And Tom makes the most hilariously confused face, hearing that. And then JGL adds: with my clothes on. *phew*
Haha! I do wonder what Tom might be thinking (like: 'Poor Joe! He's live such a sheltered life!' Or: 'You call THAT fun? I'll show you physical fun.' Or maybe just 'Whut?').
