I always like worlds that juxtapose and/or re-imagine generic fantasy (Planescape and Ravenloft), and Spelljammer did that to some extent, but it never had the flavor/atmosphere of those others, so it never really pulled it together (perhaps a result of not being separate enough from the established campaign worlds), although I suppose there were good parts that could be mined (illithids in space, beholder xenophobia, the neogi). Still, I sort of always expected the Imperial Elven Navy to start talking about gold-pressed latinum. Also, the fantasy physics of phlogiston, crystal spheres, and magic/psionic-powered minor/major helms left something to be desired.
Uh, why do you ask?

Fighting without gambits is not fun. In the beginning (of RPGs) there were text adventures. If you wanted to attack something, you typed "hit grue with sword". And you would type that out every time you wanted to attack. A few years down the line, they consilidated this, and made it so you can attack just by pressing a button.
Complaining about the gambit system is like complaining about not having to type stupid shit out. It makes the pointless random battles far more bearable, but during boss fights I still have to do so many manual commands depending on the situation that I have trouble keeping up even at the default speed setting.
