Treaty presentations could be difficult but this was going to be more interesting than usual. My Council with DeMace, my soon-to-be less influential lover amongst them, and I faced the open image onto an assembly of our enemy’s ruling council. What could I have found in DeMace, worth war?

“Surely you would not waste your ships and resources further battling against us,” I continued.

“You’ve been misinformed,” returned Varon with a chilling grin. “We are quite willing to accept peace for the right price. My brothers are my heirs. So how does the romantic drivel go, ‘Come with me and be my love.”

“You want me?!”

“If your people want peace, then I will have you.”

“But it wouldn’t last without a common heir produced,” I protested, “and as we are both male ...”

“I am told that there may be a way to circumvent that problem and I promise the trying will be pleasurable for us both.”

DeMace’s, “Trisdal, surely you wouldn’t …”

“Would you deny our people peace?”I hissed. Turning back to Varon’s image, “We agree.”

Varon’d known my sister was safely wed and had children, I’d told him. I smiled, we’d stolen continued war from DeMace’s grasp.
