I talked to an old abroad friend today, one who I haven't talked to in weeks, if not months. It was pretty fantastic to know that he hadn't really forgotten my existence.. :D we joked about just missing each other like ships in the night for a while, and it turns out he can come back to Australia sometime in April

Post when you have more news about your brother and his family. I can certainly understand why you can't concentrate on anything until you have further reassurance of their continued safety.
