Mr. Monk and the Two Assistants by Lee Goldberg
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Book on Amazon I recently started watching the Monk series in reruns on tv, so I was excited to learn that there was a novel series too. I picked this up at the library at random, not knowing which was the first book in the novel series. It references some earlier events on the show and in books, but not to the point where it doesn't stand alone. In this novel, Monk's first assistant Sharona has returned - her ex-husband Trevor is accused of murder. Monk's current assistant Natalie finds herself threatened by Sharona coming back on the scene - but soon the two ladies find themselves having to work together. They also definitely have one big thng in common - Monk. The book is a faithful adaptation of the characters from the television series - Mr. Monk in particular is at his quirky OCD best. The rivalry between former and current assistant is handled well, without becoming angsty or trite when they discover they have things in common after all. Recommended for folks who enjoy (or want to learn more about) Monk , and those who like a lighthearted easy reading mystery.
