Last time I was at the grocery store, I bought a jar of third world vegetational goodness. It's kind of like guardinia, only... not. There's no vinegar, it's got water (aqua, in this case) and salt, and .. uh.. other stuff.. to preserve the vegetables inside. And what vegetables! It's got long slices of carrot, big sticks of broccoli and cauliflower, whole onions, and unidentifiable green-brown peppers. And it's from Guatemala, where I didn't even know food could legally be imported from- and best of all, it only cost 79 cents for the whole damn jar. How could I resist?
So tonight, after much beating of the jar lid (It was really, really, reallllllly stuck) - I sampled the various preserved vegetation inside, trying not to think too hard about the sanitary conditions of weird food jarring plants in central America.
It was actually surprisingly good- though pretty unlike anything else I've ever eaten. It's not... vinegary (remember, it doesn't even contain that). It's not fresh. It's kind of.. chewy/spicy/squishy. That's the only way I can think of to describe it. The vegetables don't taste natural! But it's a good kind of unnatural.
