Pelican Cloak

You may recall several weeks ago I asked if it was better to use a period technique to piece fabric, or to use the period widths while piecing. Now that the project is finished and passed to its owner, I can talk about why I was asking that question!

I volunteered to make a pelican cloak for baronessadriana, who was inducted into the order this weekend at Ymir. ( Read more... )

Pelican cloaks are the only reason I learned to embroider!

Love the color! Now I totally want a german in that color and black.

Yours was gorgeous!

I should mention, and probably will edit above, that I also couldn't really figure out how to incorporate embroidery in a correct manner for 14th century. I think it would be along the edge, but the images didn't show anything. A perpetual challenge for us earlier folks... :-) (And she's an accuracy geek too. Love her...)

I know! I finished it at 1am before delivery - no time to put on something good! smiep suggested that it was very Hermoine. :-)

lovely!
And, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who really tears up fingertips when stitching! I know what you mean about them then catching on everything!

Lovely work. Always fun to see what you're up to.

Maybe someday I'll get some photos posted. Maybe.

I'm trying HARD to figure out how to use a thimble. I hope to post about Jeff's doublet tonight - some thimble work, but a lot of two handed stitching!

I am one who also tears the ever living crap out of my fingers and they take a couple of weeks to recover. I have found that I cannot use a metal thimble. I am thinking that I might have more luck with a leather one since it would be more pliable.

I can't use the standard cup-type thimble, but I find a ring thimble works very well. Have you ever tried one?
