Decided to rest today, I forget why. I bought some brake pads for my front wheel, it was getting to the point where i couldnt really avoid replacing them, its not the sort of thing you want to scadge on. I also got a cap to put under my hat. In retrospect my money would have been better spent on leg warmers but im hoping that my sign on money can do that, especially since i doubt i'll be able to get an aero helmet in time for my last time trial race of the season on the 5th. The hat looks good though so it has turned out acceptably. I also decided that risking punctures was the only way id learn to relax about getting them. I have until now used a fairly substantial and completely puncture proof pair of tyres on my road bike. These tyres were very un-aero with their width and tread: they are also very heavy. Because Im going away on friday to fort william I put the front wheel from my time trial bike on my road bike because of its slightly deeper rim, light weight and racing tyre. The trouble is that I wouldnt take the risk of getting a puncture again so ive been confined to the track which is easily walking distance to the house. I decided that this was no use. If im to take cycling seriously (and i have done financially) then ive got to be willing to have things break: how else will i get the full use out of them?
My answer is to put the tyre i bought way back on my road bikes rims. I'll take a spare innertube and the indestructable tyres with me because i cant afford spares until i get benefit through. I do have just enough money for a saddle bag, it may not arrive in time for my trip away but atleast i'll have it when i get back, allowing me to continue going places on my bike until i get a turbo. The result should be that my bike will be faster/more efficient and i wont always feel like its a n00b bike because of the tyres. I feel liberated from the tyres, they spoil the otherwise racy look of my bike.
In other news, ive nabbed the double bed from the spare room. Im giving up the attic when my sister gets back from australia and shes to get the double bed. I figure i might aswell have the bed for jura and i until the end of november when she gets back. Its massive, i cant wait to show jura.
