I was hoping you might have some advice that I might use.
First, the back story:
I went in to the doctor on Friday the 5th because I had cramping in my abdomen. I figured that it was time to have another period induced. Because of the poly-cystic ovarian syndrome my cycle is very erratic and the last few have been that way.
No. Not the case. I turned out that I am pregnant. Not only am I pregnant I am five months pregnant, and because of my irregular cycle I didn't suspect a thing. No morning sickness, nada. In the subsequent week after numerous doctor visits and an ultrasound, it was confirmed, five months pregnant with a little girl. In spite of my less than stellar lifestyle and drinking habits she seems to be a normal, very active, fetus.
I've been really blessed with how well my family and other family (friends) have taken the news. Because when you consider getting pregnant through PCOS and a condom, baby's pretty determined to be here. The PCOS drastically lowers my fertility, and a late termination has a high likelihood of scar tissue that would lower it even further. Because of that and the fact the she appears healthy I've decided to keep the baby.
Now we get to the request for advice. I haven't been around an infant since I was 9 and I've never been around a pregnant woman. I've been told about WIC and food stamps and medicare, but if you know of something else I should look into, send it my way. My roommate and I put together a baby registry under my name at WalMart but I don't know if I'm missing some key item or if there's stuff on there that I won't need, so feel free to help me edit that.
Above all this is a heads up that the crazy is about to hit the fan.
