Well, ideally you'll do a different character for every icon.
You pick what stuff you want to do for each taste; and it's up to you if you pick a different character for every icon or if you decide to focus on only a few characters.
For example.... I love Xena. But I also love other shows and films. So I might pick my top 4 characters, instead of doing each icon. So, for SUGARY SWEET, let's say I choose Xena, as a show, to icon. Now I have to look at what I've been given.
Okay, so I chose Xena for this set. So, I then decide on if I want my icons to be color themed in pink, purples, or a mix of all the options there. I choose a combination. So, then I choose my genre - and I go with lgbtqiap romance. So this means my five SWEET icons will be lgbtqiap romance (ships/pairings) with an overall theme of pink, light yellow and white colorings, in some way. Then I look at "Human Range," and make sure my icons fall into that category somehow, and since they're all pairings they do fall into the listed human range.
Example Icons for Sweet:
I then do the same choose/decision for each taste category. What fandom do I want to use? What genre will that meet? What colors from the options available, for the taste I'm working on, do I want to use? Then, do the icons I've made fall into the human range listed?
Does this help? I hope it does, but if not, I can make up other examples and stuff if you'd like. :)
