Progress!

Things are getting done around the house now! It's starting to look like an actual house instead of a dump! Win!

And all it took was me going out and buying all the supplies and bribing Adam with cigarettes and car-bombs to get things done. To think I've wasted years asking Mom to please do something about the way the front of the house looks. Adam and I went to Home Depot and picked up some soil and seeds mixed with mulch, he raked up the tire tracks Mom left in the front yard, filled them in with fresh dirt to level out the gouges, and re-seeded. All that's left to do yard-wise is fill in the sinkhole between the street and the sidewalk, and finish raking and scattering seeds, and the lawn at least will be done. Given time for the grass to grow back in without Mom being a fuck-tard and parking in the yard again, anyhow.

Further outdoor cleaning plans include (once the weather improves):
  • power-washing or white-washing the brick
  • re-painting the trim and shutters
  • building a few retaining walls along the slope of the hill
  • planting bushes or flowers along said retaining walls
  • and lastly but least likely to happen, making Mom replace the stairs at least, if not the driveway as well.
The interior, while not having made any real remodel progress, is starting to get cleaner and more able to stay clean as well. Chores are getting done, things are being sorted and put away, garbage is being dragged out to the curb regularly, instead of Mom going through and deciding she wants to keep so-and-so after all. Solid plans are being made for remodeling the upstairs bathroom and kitchen, and a budget and labor are slowly being sorted out.

Everything is starting to pull together, except for one thing:

I don't know how much longer I'm going to want to stay here after I'm done fixing all of the neglect. I'll be here for the summer, certainly, to do all the work, but I think I'd like to move out within the next year or two. I don't want to live with my family any more. I know it's pointless to be doing all the work when I don't intend to stick around long, but I know it really needs to be done, and my doing it is the only way to get it done. Mom certainly won't, considering she hasn't given a shit about the place in years. Niall and Adam intend to move out sometime within the next year as well. What I plan on doing is going to add an enormous amount of value to the house, and will look good for years. And since Stephanie and I get the house when Mom dies it's not like I won't be getting a return on it, but that hopefully won't be for a few more years yet. It's just really started to get to me, how terrible the house looks. Ah well.
