Julius was good at showing his best side and then was no exception. No one there would think he was here for anything but a leisurely stroll and an impulse meal at a relatively classy restaurant. Something which wouldn't be anything special to anyone in the highly unlikely chance that they actually knew who he was, as he had the money to burn. And if he happened to run into a few people he knew there, all the better.
So it was with little trepidation that he entered the restaurant and was escorted to the table where his familiar but also entirely different former GDF-mate was sitting.
Scotch? Well, I suppose it works but you're just wasting it, drinking it like that. Especially since I'd be coming and could've made miracles with it.
*At a casual glance one would probably not be able to recognize Ennil, her clothing covering up a good deal more of her body and her hair combed back. Her voice still carries the same tone to it though.*
But then again... considering what we're going to discuss I suppose getting you hammered should be the last thing I should try to pull.
"Glad you both could make it," Char replies, without sarcasm for once. He leans back a little, addressing both of them. "I know you've probably got a lot of questions, and I'll try to take time to answer them, but let me just say I'm glad you two showed up. There's a lot of things that need doing, and they need to get done very quickly."
I have no objections with this. My schedule's tight too, seeing as how the GDF's finally going to pay a visit to the Satellite Cannon station on the moon in just a few days.
All of that aside, the biggest question on my mind is that you do understand what needs to be done, correct? Merely picking up where Haman Karn left off would only maintain the cycle we're trying to end.
"If I agreed with what Haman was doing, I'd have gone back to her Zeon months ago," Char says dismissively, setting his drink down. "She was the last of any spacenoid ambitions on dominating the Earth Sphere, as far as I'm concerned, and my people did an excellent job of terminating her people. No, I plan to end this conflict decisively, and trading one dictatorship for another will hardly accomplish that."
"Besides," he continues, much more jovially, "You couldn't pay me enough to want to rule the world. I've always been a soldier, not a politician."
Julius shakes his head, "I do not think it will be that simple. Neither the GDF nor the A-LAWS will stand for a military assault against the Earth Sphere. The GDF is the stronger of the two but the A-LAWS are probably the greater threat. We won't be able to hold things over their head."
Julius neglects to point out that a decisive end to the conflict is likely impossible as any attempt is better than no attempt at all in his book. The GDF might be good at defeating giant monsters and alien invasions, but it is not good at all when it comes to politics. The A-LAWS are too quick to jump the gun and the UES is otherwise to split up to get anything useful done.
"A conventional military assault isn't really what I had in mind," Char replies, leaving it unstated that after the shellacking the GDF gave Axis's forces before he took over, and the necessary purges of Haman loyalists, he'd be lucky to stand against just the GDF for more than a few weeks after he got their attention
( ... )
Julius nods at Char's explanation, "You do not have to worry about that. I have no intention of returning to the GDF at this point. Unless you have a reason for me to leave, I will remain on this colony until further notice."
*Very slowly, Ennil draws herself up straight, looking tense and genuinely frustrated about something. And one short breath later, the tenseness is gone as she looks at Char.*
The UES's policies are shamelessly inconsistent. And you're right; this isn't about Earthnoids and Spacenoids. There's blood of innocent people on their hands... people who have just quietly been forgotten time and time again. That needs to be stopped... and you're the only person out there that can not only see that but do something about it. Not only that, it's something I want to lend my strength to.
Regrettably, I have a one last thing I'd like to wrap up with the GDF. I wouldn't ask of it, but the SRA's getting more and more active and I have some ghosts from my past I'd like to lay to rest.
Julius nods, "I can see that. It's not as if the UES regular armed forces ever does anything anyway. Everything is pretty much always handled by either the A-LAWs or the GDF, and there should be more than enough time to evacuate the facility. The only reason this should kill anyone is if the whole place is disorganized enough or idiotic enough to not give an evacuation order, in which case they dug their own grave." Not to say that Julius is exactly happy about this plan, but simply put nothing has worked so far and the UES government has, as Char said, basically fucked everything up continuously.
Durandal's Destiny Plan might be idiotic, unfeasible and ultimately short sighted, but it is an attempt to address the same issues. This plan is also fairly short sighted, but at least its feasible and won't kill that many people in the grander scheme of things. It doesn't really put forth a solution, but Julius is pretty sure if there was an easy solution to the situation someone would have thought of it by now.

*And with that she sits down next to Julius.*
