So I went to my first Jury summoning in Downtown LA today. Thank goodness there was a local route towards downtown or I would've be stuck in traffic both in the morning and in the evening.

Anyways, I made my way into the assembly room, and there was an old Chinese lady next to me. She had to fill out a bunch of forms at the booth so I saved her spot. It turned out that she wasn't that fluent in English so I explained a lot of the procedures broadcasted on the speakphone (which is barely understandable). She was semi-panicking because she couldn't understand English well, so there were several times when she asks me when and how everyone will be dismissed and what happens if she gets called into a courtroom.

Anyways, no one was called in the morning and we went to lunch break. I took a small drive to Weller Court to this restaurant that specializes yakitori. Had a yakitori-don...it's not bad; I also liked the pickled vegetable that came with it. It was very refreshing.

It wasn't until 2 something when they started calling people in. Luckily I didn't get called, hehe. And out of nowhere I felt very Chinese. I was helping out a Chinese lady next to me, listening to Cantonese songs on my MD Player, and reading a book on doing Business with Chinese people---and on the other side of my seat was a cute Chinese girl :x. So yeah, no "zomg I r poser and worship all things Japanese."

By 3:40 everyone was looking forward to the final announcement relieving everyone in the assembly room from all jury duty for another 12 months---UNTIL THEY HAD ANOTHER ROLL-CALL. I think someone got called for the second time...and once again neither the old lady nor I got called in. We beat the homestretch and the entire room was cheering when the PA finally announced the end of service. The old lady thanked me before I dashed down the court building stairs (not going to join a massive flock of people in an elevator that comes once in a full moon).

All in all, it was a new experience and I learned several new things but I'd rather be at work today ^__^;
