30 Days of TV -- Day 2

A show that you wish more people were watching

My choice

FRINGE

I'll admit, I don't think watching Fringe is going to change your life or bring about world peace. My reasons are pretty straightforward and self serving...I love it when my friends and I share favorite shows. The squeeing, analyzing, the inevitable betrayal, well, you know, the experience we know as fangirling, adds so much to any program. While I share my other current faves with at least a few friends, (Dexter, Mad Men, and Burn Notice, even Castle come to mind) I literally can't think of a single LJ friend who watches Fringe.

So here's my SPOILER-FREE pitch for Fringe, friends. It did not get off to a good start. It was slow and had a yawn-worthy ~evil corporation~ conspiracy plot that went nowhere. Here's what happened in Season two--they tightened the focus on the three main characters, went more full-on Sci-Fi, and serialized the story. The plot still goes off into WTF territory sometimes, true. BUT. It's got Joshua Jackson, guys, exuding charm and intelligence and cynicism like he does. Olivia, played by Anna Torv, pulls off the placid, icy cool exterior because you always sense there's more going on. Finally there is John Noble as Walter Bishop. Too much genius, too many drugs, too much trauma...Walter is the gentlest, funniest, bravest and, now that Lost is over, I think may be the best character on network tv.

And yes, it's on Thursday nights, which means it's on against Grey's Anatomy. And CSI, and The Office and even that new remake of Nikita that some people are excited about. That's what those new fangled Tivos, or, if you're like me, olde timey VCRs were made for. Thanks for your consideration.
