As of last week, I am officially unemployed. Why you may ask? Well, the pencil pushers of our warehouse decided that they were going to test out new carts in my area of work to see if the carts increase our productivity. After a month of everyone having tested the cart for a week each, they decided that the carts increased productivity by 50% based on the results of one person they had using the carts for the whole month verses everyone else's productivity staying the same or being lower. Everyone in the area were pretty upset at the fact that we had to use these long carts that are a pain to work in our narrow aisles. The carts also have some other inconveniences like having nowhere to put our scan guns on or small individual parts, creating a hazard when turning corners due to a lack of visibility caused by how long the cart is, potential for breaking smaller merchandise when they get stacked under heavier parts, making it hard for more than one person to be in an aisle at one time, potential for lower back pain for the workers when picking up boxes due to how low the carts are and the fact that we work with mostly small parts rather than constantly working with big parts or big boxes.
Having such a big problem with these carts, I was one of only two people that was willing to take to the pencil pushing warehouse supervisor; everyone else was afraid to speak out against the carts despite how much they disliked them because they feared that if they do, they'd get fired. I went to work an hour early on Monday to speak to the supervisor and I waited about an hour and a half before I got to speak to him. After discussing my quarrels with the carts, I also brought up some other things I want to say like some new policy about changing our scan gun's batteries that waste more time then it saves, and that fixing the floor of our make-shift second story floor would help improve production as it would help keep merchandise on the carts rather then on the ground. He said that I brought up interesting points about the carts the he wants to look into fixing but we still have to use the u-boat carts rather than our older double decker carts because their information (which he really didn't elaborate on what it is based on) says increases productivity. He also said that if working with the carts is going to be a problem with me, I should quit and so I did.
Now I'm looking for a new job, preferably a job in a lab somewhere so I can gain some experience in what I may potentially be working in as a profession. So far, I've applied for entry level jobs at Labcorp and Sonora Quest Labs but if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. Hell, being a lab rat would be better then working in any kind of costumer service.
