I have some exciting things coming up and I hope that some of you can come out in support!
Something amazing is going to happen at TRUCK the bar on Folsom and 15th in SF (1900 Folsom St.) On Monday Aug 17th. Three (guitarist for Venus Bleeding) and I are going to show and release the "E" video made for Venus Bleeding back in 2001. It was orginally held up for all sorts of reasons I won't get into , but it will be a chance for people to actually see it. It was made by a New Orleans Director Mia Salsi who came with a crew all the way to Oakland/Richmond to film it. It actually features real actors (not just the band) and has a story line, you know, it's a real video. My Davey and I will be performing a couple songs with it as well and as a suprise to Three, definatly a Venus Bleeding one.
Some of you may know that VB was most of my life. I was 19 when this band started and had to sneak into the bar where we played out 3rd or 5th show ever in Modesto opening for Pansy Division!(Our violinist had to wait outside untill we played cause she looked to young) I was 30 when it ended in the typical: we just got signed, had a tour of Japan planned and then imploded due to inner stress between mates sort of thing. Then this article came out and I had to stare at it in the newspaper boxes where I read my friends and former co workers talk shit. The pics were nice and as they say any press is good press, but lil miss sensitive got her feelings hurt. I was idealistic and thought that people were actually happy for your successes. That's what I get for working in a music store haha!Being like I was, was a thorn in the side of my co workers.Sorry fella's, should have kept that to myself.
Luckily for me I diversified and had all sorts of stuff to move unto, tattooing for one, which I had set aside in 1994 to focus on the band. This break up got me back into it and a job at a fun shop while it was open.
This release is really exciting for both of us and we have been looking at each other with goo goo eyes. Maybe we'll get together and do something again, she hasn't picked up her guitar since. She told me that I was her light and that w/o me, she put it in the closet. Holy Crow, you really don't know or understand the effect that one can have on people. I am so happy to be older and more mature to be able to understand the gravity of that effect.
Things get started arounf 9 or 10 and I will post a flyer for any interested parties. It's free and they show all sorts of indie films (hint hint filmakers). They are also very queer friendly!
Moving along...we may have all the same friends and if not I hope you add my best bro Dave. He is "shadowcircus" on here. Pardon for my ignorance of the link thing.
We will be doing 2 nights, August 19 & 20th at the Climate Theatre on 9th and Folsom, S.F. for our Vaudeville Theatre: The Shadow Circus Vaudeville Theatre. We will have Unwoman (Rasputina), Fancy Kate (Vaude De Vire) and Hernan Cortez, my fave sideshow artist and the first sword swallower I have seen in real life! Syrus the talking Dreadlock will he there as well as a few new puppets you haven't met yet. I am really excited that Syrus and I (playing myself) will be doing a skit together. He and I go way back to the early comics of Shadow Circus, born in the spoken word scene that thrived in Modesto in the turn of the 1990's. Actually the characters of SC are older but he and I joined forces then.
Please,if you do, buy tickets in advance! They sold out before the show and people were turned away at the door! Hence the 2 nights. You don't have to go to both (unless you are a glutton for punishment) as it will be a repeated show. There is lot of new stuff and more musical numbers from us and interviews of the performers by Hatchet and Wesley so don't miss it.
Incase you are in L.A. and you are thinking "bitch please, I can't make that!"
: we will be at the C.I.A in L.A. on Halloween, with even newer stuff in the works.
Sept. is poppin' with Burlesque shows for myself: Sept. 7th, Labour Day, I will be debuting at the Uptown, Oakland's Hubba Hubba Review on Telegraph and 20th. The bridge will be closed if SF peeps are driving (which most folks don't, thank you for saving the air)but Bart is literally right there a block away. I am pretty sure I will go on early since I have't performed there before. I checked it out last night and it was a lot of fun.
This time I am booking myself as my real name Angelique X-Stacy so that my peeps will know it's me. There has been a lil confusion last time I performed in Oakland: they announced me as "Marie La Faux" and when I got out there, some folks exclaimed "that's Angelique from that band!" My own real name is really cool, so why not? I lucked out in hyphenating my name with my hubby, shit, X-Stacy? Say that all together!
Marie La Faux will be doing 2 special performances at the Witch's Brew 2 on Sept 19th at the El Rio Club on Mission at Precita in SF. at 3 p.m. on. There will be free food, raffles, tarot readers, witchy vendors, Slow Poisoner and 5 Cent Coffee and me. Proceeds go to help our own San Francisco Ghost Society to purchase equipment. It is totally a volunteer organization, so every lil bit helps. It's cheap , like 5 bux to get in and will be fun.
I also will be vending some special dressed candles as well for helping folks acheive and focus their desires!
Also I work out of a tattoo studio on the 3rd floor of the El Rio as well so if you a city person looking for some ink, I do appt. there. In the East Bay , I have been lucky enough to find a commercial space in West Oakland for East Bay Peeps.
I have been donating tattoo gift certs. to FEED benefit for Lux Killmore Productions to help fund their upcoming movie. We just had a wonderful time and turnout at the last one on July 30th, and my gift cert was the first prize snatched up. There will be another at the end of August at the Climate so please keep an eye out and we'll post flyers here.
Stay tuned and thanks for reading and I hope to see you folks out at one of these events!
