Well, I got back today from Pensacola. For those of you unaware, I left for a few days to visit a friend of mine, Emilie. You've probably seen her comments under the name Van Halcyon. After a grueling 20 hour bus ride I arrived in Pensacola around noon on Saturday. I won't delve into exact detail but it was fun nonetheless. That expression on her face when I showed up was priceless though. I gotta stop in unannounced more often. Saturday Em and I went with one of her friends from work to go see the Jones vs Tarver boxing match. Shitty fight, only two rounds but hey there was beer ;-). Sunday was a comfortable day which was comprised mainly of movie watching and dinner at Em's mothers house. Monday was really something. Em works at a outdoor store called Weatherfords that sells a bunch of stuff for hiking, climbing, skiing and kayaking. Inside they have this big climbing wall. Em and Dustin gave me a crash course in working the climbing equipment and climbing tips. That was incredibly fun, but I'm afraid I'm not quite the climber Em is. :sigh: It's sad when a girl almost half your size is a match at arm wrestling. Afterwards Ryan stopped by and they took me to the beach. Now I'd seen the ocean and read descriptions in books. Even went on a fishing boat but i never got to walk barefoot on a sugar white beach with an expanse of endless blue stretching out before me. All in all an awesome experience. Got a bunch of shells but no whole sand dollars sadly. We swam a bit, popped a couple beers then relaxed and were nearly uninvited to dinner at Em's mothers house. Which would have been a real shame cuz it was gooood. Tuesday I finally got to meet Alex. We all went to the mall and later that night headed over to Bennigans, but not before Em dawned the Nerv insignia. Mmm, Monte Christo. On my last day em had to work unfortunately but it gave me opportunity to brush up on my Disney.
"Nobody cares."
"I care bat man!"
"Really?"
"Yeah"
"You're sure?"
"I'm positive."
"Only fools are positive"
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive"
I forgot how great Ferngully is. For that night I prepared spaghetti. I had Chicken Parmesan in mind but there were complications. Mailing the distance of the grocery store and lack of a car. It was still good though and Ryan brought plenty of beer. He was set on putting me on that bus with at least a buzz. So I bid Em, Alex and Ryan farewell with encouragement to return soon. Somehow during my visit I managed to show Em Bebop up to the final two series, though Eva still holds top position in her heart. However I did manage to convert the downstairs room mate Jacob. Poor guy was sick the entire time so I let him borrow the series and he polished it off in a day. All in all it was a great time. I can comfortably say it was best week of my life, recent memory at least. It's strange, I've never felt homesick for a place I didn't live.
