Isolated Module 1: Revenge!

Tagline: Even heroes need to rest once in a while. The time is right.

D&D type game
Adventure for DM + 2 players, characters are premade, intended to not tie in with any campaign.

Baseline thoughts:
The main characters are two of the traditionally "evil" humanoids. Think bugbear ranger and hobgoblin assassin. They are out for revenge for unstated crimes (destruction of home, family, etc.) that were committed against them by the heroes of the land's more "light" races. In particular, one hero is resting at a mountain fortress after a campaign and the evil PCs are attempting to defeat him (and also make off with as much loot as possible, while staying alive).

The raid would be conducted at night and they only have one shot at it - they are truly relying on surprise, timing, and stealth. They cannot perform the typical D&D "purge" of the "dungeon" - if they try to kill everyone and everything in order to loot the entire keep, the keep forces will swarm them like an angry anthill. That being said, they would be powerful characters compared to any individual foe in the keep and would have a reasonable stock of one-use items, just as one would expect for a team that had been planning such a daring maneuver. Perhaps have several foes in the keep that could work as a "boss monster" - the hero, the baron of the keep, etc., but the PCs don't "need" to truly fight any of them.

Other ideas:
-Perhaps the two have different objectives, either known or secret, so that they will have to make some tough decisions when they get partway there. Up the tower to the chambers for revenge vs. down to the depths to raid the treasury.
-I want this to be an opportunity for players to play out some of the classes that they don't get to in situations that they normally don't get to - a typical dungeon is a confused and poorly-prepared affair, while this quest will involve characters specially trained and equipped for the task, with their own map and having spent time to study the comings and goings of the keep, etc.
-Perhaps give the PCs options for preparations before the raid - many times one-shot quests just dump you in a dungeon, if the PCs have a few choices first they might feel more involved.

To be continued...
