Communication is a lot like music; and like music, communication has multiple dimensions.

I have been thinking about what you write recently. People communicate with whole sentences that are in such a way structured that they convey the wanted emotion. Emotion is the message. Not always these sentences make sense if you analyze them word by word. But if they convey a possitive message it's a win-win situation.

Though, I hadn't given much thought or wasn't focused on the whole perspective (the multi-dimensionality) as described here. My personal interest in the idea of sentences-emotions was because sometimes it infuriates me (but that's just me) when a so commonly told idea I disagree with, is so easilly accepted by people and when I tried to track what happens I found out that people recite these ideas and there is an aura of possitive feelings or belonging associated. They don't care to analyze it deeper word per word, meaning per meaning, they only care to receive and send the same emotion the sentence conveys.

I would like to add that some words are too abstract to bear a single meaning and they can be interpreted in a different way (negative or possitive) by every person. Not that there can't be a single one logical explanation for these words, but one can have negative feelings in the hearing of one while others not. It all depends on your personal life experiences and associations with your emotions to what kind of words, sentences, ideas or communication ways you like or dislike.

Anyway, sorry for the big rant, but I liked this post and it has some similarities with some of my recent thoughts.

The multi-dimensionality of words comes mostly from the context... a single word seems only to have a rough, undefined sort of meaning.

Some words are more precise than others, of course. And many are defined not just by context but by the person using them, the person hearing them, and the world around those people.

Big rants are just fine :)
