If the DSM has its way, Asperger's and PDD-NOS will merge into the autistic spectrum.

I agree that labels can behave very destructive and cause no good in the end. Labels can be used as excuses not to deal with the "problem."

ASAN is the same as Autism Speaks. They too claim to speak for those that can't. They assume that b/c they have a diagnosis of Autism they know all about it. YET, it is true that if you meet ONE person with autism, you have met ONE person with autism... not everyone. The also ignore other's POV's that have autism... There way... or no way.

...with the tiny exception that Autism Speaks still refuses to even consider putting an autistic person on their board of directors, and ASAN has a majority... and the trifling matter that ASAN doesn't spend its money on researching genetic tests... and ASAN tells people to listen to autistic people when they speak, while Autism Speaks happily gags all the autistics they can... ASAN is entirely volunteer; autism speaks directors are living like fat cats on six-figure salaries... Yeah, sorry, there's really no contest. Have you actually researched this? I mean, I get it if you disagree with them, which is fine; but at least ASAN won't sue you for being autistic and daring to have an opinion.
