So, I beat Shadow of the Colossus. What I have to say?
First off, the game is like the predecessor in some way for Okami, you know? Okami is basically described as one of the most artistic games ever released on the PS2. I kinda think that Shadow of the Colossus precedes that in the fact that it is one of the most art-inspiring games I have ever come across. I mean, just listen to that music! There's minimal amount of it, since it wanted to -- and successfully-- create a feeling of isolation, but it is just plain gorgeous. The final boss theme is nothing to shake a stick at either. Check it out: "The Demise of the Ritual" on youtube.
The ending -- oh my god the ending -- is such a total tearjerker. The entire thing was just one huge plot twist; Wanderer's whole resolve is broken because he was being used by the villain, who was "helping" you all along. His final moments, when he was crying out "Mono" while being sucked in by that seal brought me basically to tears.
This just basically shows how selfish some can be by using selfless people. Even then, Wanderer's resolve is selfish in some way. When you think about it. Wanderer basically trespassed into "cursed" land, killed sixteen colossi that harbors pieces of an evil god, only to bring back to life his lover. I know it's cute and he does have good reason, but it is selfish in some way.
Err... I take it back; he didn't even know that it was an evil god, just that it was forbidden and stuff.
Oh yeah, and that the god-thingy kinda warned him that he's gonna have to cough up a big payment in order to get her revived. Cut me some slack, mind! I still don't remember much of the intro script.
Aggro also wins over best horse in video gaming history -- even more so than Epona.
"But Julie," you all say, "you get to fight really cool boss battles with Epona and she's such a brave creature!"
Oh ho? In at least three integral boss battles in SotC is Aggro important for the battle. My most favorite is probably the thirteenth, where you need to pierce three things on an airborne colossus while riding Aggro in order to bring that little mo-fo down, then ride up to its wing to jump on it.
Not only that, but Aggro basically risk his own life. How -- you might ask? Right before the final boss, you ride on to of a collapsing bridge. The last part collapses and Aggro throws Wanderer on safe land while he falls into a large valley and into a river.
Ever seen Epona do THAT?
I think not. The only perk of Epona is the smoother controls when steering, and that was the only thing that ticked me off with Aggro.
That was my mini rant, ladies and gents! With two PS2 games (Persona 3, Shadow of the Colossus) shelved, I now venture to beat the hilarious game, Rogue Galaxy, and perhaps try to play Eternal Poison!
Or maybe I'll buy something, I'm heading out for the day tomorrow anyway!
Too long; didn't read: Shadow of the Colossus is like a visual and auditory orgasm, with a very deep plot, and a few miffs in controls.
