Dice update

I promised you this entry for quite some time, sorry that it took that long.

But here are the pictures and descriptions (how to do it) of my dice.
They are behind several cuts as not to clutter your friends page. The pictures are not really small. All pictures here are links to the pics in my LJ gallery where they have more annotations.
My SO gave me as a present a stuffed d6 (six-sided die).

I then wanted to make myself the other dice needed for roleplaying as stuffed dice.
What you need for making stuffed toy dice is this:

blue fleece to cut the parts out (you can use other colors or fabrics if you like)
cotton wool to stuff it (ask at a handiworks shop what to use for stuffed toys, they will give you the right stuff)
blue thread (blue because the cloth is also blue)
a needle
scissors to cut the thread.
Also handy are things like a set square and a dressmaker's pencil to draw the triangles on the cloth.

I started with the d4 (four-sided) because it's the easiest. Cut four triangles out of the cloth, all the sides of each triangle have to be the same length. sice length for my die was about 13 cm. It doesn't matter much if the sides are not exactly the same length, but they should be within 2-3 mm inaccuracy.
If you want to stitch the numbers on it, then do it now. Otherwise proceed with the next step.
Sew three of the triangles together to form a three-sided pyramid. If you already stitched the numbers on it, take care that the numbers are on the inside. Sew the fourth side on it as the "bottom of the pyramid. When sewing on the "bottom", leave about half of the length of one side open.

Turn it around, so that the seams are on the inside (and the stitched numbers on the outside).

Fill it with the cotton wool until it's well filled. You can stuff the cotton wool through the hole you left unseamed, the same hole you used for turning it. When it's overfilled it will resemble more a ball with some corners poking out than a die.
Then sew the last half seam so that the die is closed.
If you haven't done already, apply the numbers to all sides of the die. Take a normal die to look where the numbers should be, or apply them in any order you like.

The d8 is quite similar.
You need 8 triangles instead of 4. My triangles had a side length of about 10 cm.
I suggest you first sew four triangles together to a four-sided pyramid without bottom. This will give you two such pyramids. Now take the open sides (where the bottom would be on a real pyramid) and sew three of them together. Sew the fourth side only half together. I did only sew the edges and about one cm of seam coming from each edge on the fourth side.
Turn it around, fill it until you think it's full and then sew the last part of seam.
Don't forget to apply (or stitch) the numbers on the die before it's too late.

I can't give you a description on how to do the d20 yet, as I just started cutting the 20 triangles and stitching the numbers on it. It will come when the die is finished.
