[Vincent is off in a forested area not far from town. He's seated under a tree, thinking and watching leaves fall.]

Yet another alternate reality... but something about this was different from others. As if we were living out a set story, each time...

[It's not as if they have the exact same fairytales on his world, after all, but there had been ( Read more... )

dread and doom, finding a dark quiet place, ..., angsting tree, humanity, always thinking too much, inner demons, secretly eally old, love is angst, musings and contemplations, man or monster?, experiment, doesn't look his age, plot aftermath, doesn't like celebrating anyway, trying to keep distant, significant days

Why away? Or perhaps, "Why this time of year" as opposed to any other time in Luceti. At least it's not February.

No... it's nothing to do with the weather. It's simply... a time I would prefer solitude.

[Though honestly, there are many such days on Vincent's Calendar of Angst.]

I meant Halloween as opposed to Valentine's Day. Unless it's not about holidays either.

Right... That's toward the end of the month. I would take the nightmares of Halloween over the ...perils... of that other day.

[He still can't bring himself to think about that holiday too much. It's like the universe played a horribly twisted joke, making it share his name. Good thing that's not anytime soon though.]

It's about neither of those.

It's complicated, but... you could put it that way.

Pity. I guess you could always try to hide away. Although in this place, that never seems to work.

Especially during the experiments... perhaps I'll manage better with none ongoing.

Maybe! Too bad they don't exactly print a schedule or anything though.

I doubt they would want to make it too easy for us.

It might ruin the effects if we knew in advance.

I assume it would, from their perspective.

Right, well it's like lab tests. You have to have controls and specific factors as eliminated as possible. If we could thwart them, it would twist the outcome of the study.

It's unfortunate that we cannot render their findings useless.

Maybe we can! We could create the Shift pact! Every Shift we face, we have to try to figure out what their objective is and skew their results...

Oh but... then they would just do it all over again rather than give up. And 2 of the same shifts in a row would be really boring.

Still a good idea in theory... but I doubt many of us could bear repeats of some experiments.
